Worcestershire pace bowler Ben Gibbon dismissed New Zealand captain, Tom Latham, for the second time in the match and finished with a three-wicket haul on day three of the County Select X1’s match against the touring side at the Cloud FM County Ground, Chelmsford.
Gibbon finished with figures of 8.2-0-36-3 as New Zealand were bowled out for 148 in their second innings to give him a match analysis of 27.2-116-5.
The left armer can take considerable satisfaction from his performance which has helped put the Select X1 in with a strong chance of forcing victory on the final day.
Gibbon came into the attack for the third over of New Zealand’s second innings and Latham got off the mark by edging his third delivery wide of the slip cordon.
But it was his only scoring stroke and the batter who has scored more than 4,500 Test runs at an average of 41 was undone by the final delivery of the over.
Latham pushed forward to a ball that nipped away and nicked through to Lyndon James at third slip who held onto the chance away to his right.
Gibbon had figures of 5-0-22-1 from his first spell and then had a lengthy wait before returning to the attack to polish off the innings.
He picked up the wickets of Neil Wagner (36) and Kyle Jamieson (36) who had shared a ninth wicket stand of 63.
Wagner tried to work a delivery to leg and was lbw and then Jamieson went for a big blow down the ground and only picked out Jamie Porter at long off.
Gibbon also held onto a catch to dismiss Tim Southee for 34.
The County Select X1 were left a 264 target and closed on 112-1.
