WORCESTERSHIRE PACE BOWLER BEN GIBBON STRIKES TO DISMISSES NEW ZEALAND CAPTAIN

Worcestershire pace bowler, Ben Gibbon, picked up the prized scalp of New Zealand captain, Tom Latham when appearing for the County Select X1 on day one of the tour game at the Cloud FM County Ground, Chelmsford.

The left armer also dismissed another leading batter in Daryl Mitchell during an impressive performance in what is New Zealand’s final game before the first Test against England at Lord’s beginning next Thursday.

Gibbon had made his senior debut for Worcestershire in the recent LV=Insurance County Championship matches with Durham at New Road and Derbyshire at the Incora County Ground.

He shared the new ball against the tourists in what is only the third first-class match of his career.

Gibbon bowled a maiden to Latham (11) and then the opener went another five balls without scoring against him before pushing forward to a fine delivery and edging to Ryan Patel at first slip.

An opening spell brought a return of 6-2-12-1 for Gibbon.

It was during his third spell after lunch that he accounted for Mitchell (58) when he went for a drive and was bowled via an inside edge to a ball angled back in.

Gibbon ended the day with figures of 16-6-54-2 as New Zealand closed on 298-8 from 90 overs.
