RAPIDS BLAST PREPARATIONS AIDED BY THREE-DAY WIN IN CHAMPIONSHIP

Alex Gidman says Worcestershire’s preparations for the Vitality Blast have been aided by their three-day win over Leicestershire in the LV=Insurance County Championship at New Road.

Head Coach Gidman revealed the squad will now have the opportunity to put in an additional day of T20 preparations ahead of the Rapids Blast opener with Yorkshire on Wednesday at Headingley.

He also confirmed the first team players will again play for the Seconds in Tuesday’s SET20 encounter with Somerset at New Road.

They previously had a run-out in the Seconds match with Glamorgan at New Road in the same competition.

Gidman said: “We’ve been able to do a little bit. We had a bit of a run out last Tuesday. Some of the first team players played. We did a little fielding practice and things.

“It’s a case of slowly but surely. They are used to it now, it happens every year, it is not a massive issue.

“One of the really good things about the result against Leicestershire is we get a rest day on Sunday which means we can have an extra practice on Monday which wasn’t in the plans.

“Then we will put a team out to play in the second team fixture here on Tuesday.

“It’s as good a preparation as we can have and we are looking forward to that competition starting.”
