Pat Brown will make his first appearance of the season when Worcestershire Seconds take on Glamorgan in a Second Eleven Championship match at Newport beginning tomorrow (Monday).
Brown has been building up his fitness after a back problem, and Seconds Coach Kadeer Ali confirmed he would be part of the side for the four-day encounter.
The pace bowler will be tasting his first action since featuring in two games in the Pakistan Super League in January for Peshawar Zalmi.
Kadeer said: “Really delighted for Pat. He’s had a frustrating time with little injuries, but he is back for this game, and hopefully, he can ease into it and be ready to go for the Vitality Blast.”
Triallist Kashif Ali will be looking to continue the impressive form he showed in the last ball one-wicket defeat at Northampton when he hit 80 in the first innings and 74 in the second.
Kadeer said: “He played really well in both innings but especially in the second innings after losing five wickets in nine balls.
“He batted at a crucial time when Northamptonshire could have been chasing a lot less of a target, and his partnership with henry Cullen was crucial.”
Kadeer said the young players would learn much from the narrow defeat at Northampton.
He said: “It was a great game of cricket with all three results possible when the final ball was about to be bowled.
“Great for the lads to be involved in pressure situations like that and you learn a lot from those situations and tight finishes.
“They got a decent platform, and we had a young attack, with Mitchell Stanley, the most experienced bowler, but they stuck at it and kept our cool.
“Over the four days, we played some brilliant cricket. Obviously disappointed to lose, but, like I said, you learn a lot when you don’t get over the line.”
Gareth Roderick will again captain the side and keep wicket against Glamorgan.
