Jack Haynes scored his second century of Worcestershire’s pre-season programme on day two of the three-day encounter with Warwickshire at Portland Road.
The former England Under-19 player had struck 127 when batting at number three against Oxford UCCE in The Parks last week.
This time in the opening role, Haynes continued in the same vein when hitting 119 off a quality Bears attack.
A single to fine leg off Jacob Bethell took Haynes to three figures from 142 balls with 18 boundaries.
He put on 85 for the first wicket with Tom Fell (37) and a further 54 for the third with Academy player Oli Cox.
Haynes, skippering the side in this game, was eventually fourth out at 217 when he pulled a delivery from Manraj Johal into the hands of deep backward square.
In all, he faced 166 deliveries and struck 21 fours.
Haynes declared 23 behind on 264-7, and then Dillon Pennington, Josh Baker, Reeve Evitts and Jacques Banton picked up one wicket apiece as Warwickshire closed on 190-4 from 45 overs, a lead of 213.
Worcestershire resumed on 75-0 in reply to Warwickshire’s 287-5 declared and added only ten more before Fell (37) pushed forward to Ryan Sidebottom and was caught behind.
Haynes brought up his half-century before Jacques Banton (13) edged Rory Haydon to first slip.
Oli Cox was in an aggressive mood, pulling Oliver Currill over fine leg for six and then striking Dan Mousley down the ground for another maximum.
The half-century stand with Haynes came up from only 57 balls.
Haynes completed his excellent century, and then Cox, having made 26 off 28 balls, lobbed up a catch to wicket-keeper Alex Davies, who ran around to short leg off Jacob Bethell.
After Haynes’ departure, Rehaan Edavalath (0) nicked a delivery to first slip off Sidebottom, who then had Josh Baker caught behind for a breezy 26.
Davies picked up his fourth catch of the innings from a Henry Cullen edge on 15 against the bowling of Ethan Brookes before the declaration.
Pennington took the new ball and bowled Mousley (5) during an opening spell of 6-2-18-1.
Davies followed up his first innings 96 with 67 off 69 balls with two sixes and eight fours.
He eventually lofted Baker into the hands of Olly Davidson at long off with the total 117-2.
Worcestershire had a third breakthrough with Evitts having Matthew Lamb (65) caught behind.
Banton was rewarded for a tight spell when he held onto a return catch from Bethell (4) just before the close.
