Ed Pollock made an immediate impact in his first appearance for Worcestershire before the bowlers wreaked havoc on the opening day of the two-day encounter with Hampshire at the Ageas Bowl.
Pollock made 36 from 25 balls and then a run a ball 85 in his second knock as Worcestershire totalled 201-9 in their allotted 60 overs.
Dillon Pennington and Adam Finch then picked up three wickets apiece as Hampshire were reduced to 75-7 from 26 overs by the close.
Pollock stated his desire to play more red-ball cricket after arriving at New Road, and he mixed solid defence with some trademark clean striking.
He was up to the challenge of a wicket where the ball nipped around and offered encouragement to the seamers throughout the day.
Pollock faced just 25 balls in his first innings, which contained two sixes and five fours and was also destructive when he batted again.
He struck four sixes, three of them off off-spinner Felix Organ, and seven other boundaries before England spinner Liam Dawson dismissed him.
Tom Fell made a patient unbeaten 27 in his second innings and added 96 for the ninth wicket with Pollock.
Jake Libby (12), who was leading the side, put on 46 for the first wicket with Pollock, but then wickets fell at steady intervals.
Hampshire were soon on the back foot when they batted, and Pennington broke through in his fourth over when bowling Ian Holland (12).
Nick Gubbins (0) edged Pennington to second slip, and two balls later Aneurin Donald (0) was caught at cover.
Pennington’s first spell produced figures of 6-2-10-3.
Finch came into the attack and, in his first over, picked up two wickets in two balls as he bowled Joe Weatherley (13) and trapped Ben Brown (0) lbw.
Stanley also made an instant breakthrough, accounting for Dawson (2) and a third scalp for Finch as Tom Prest (5) went lbw.
At that point, Hampshire had lost seven wickets for 25 runs in the space of 11.2 overs as they were reduced to 40-7.
Finch ended the day with figures of 6-2-22-3.
