Worcestershire 2022 overseas signing, Azhar Ali, joined an elite band of Pakistan players today in completing 7,000 Test runs, and he achieved the feat on his home ground in Lahore.
Azhar, available to play red-ball cricket during the summer for Worcestershire, became only the fifth Pakistan player to reach that milestone on day three of the third Test against Australia.
He followed in the footsteps of Younis Khan (10,099), Javed Miandad (8,832), Inzamam-ul-Haq (8829) and Mohammad Yousuf (7,530).
Azhar, batting at number three, had been 30 not out overnight and reached 7,000 Test runs when a single off former Worcestershire overseas player, Nathan Lyon, lifted his score to 74.
It came in his 94th Test and followed on from his superb 185 spanning nearly nine hours in the first Test in Rawalpindi, his 19th Test century.
Azhar added four more runs before, on 78, he was dismissed by a fine return catch from Australian captain Pat Cummins.
He struck one six and seven fours in his 208 ball innings and added 150 for the second wicket with Abdullah Shafique (81).
Azhar is set to join Worcestershire for the opening LV=Insurance County Championship encounter with Leicestershire at the Uptonsteel County Ground beginning on April 7.
