WADE LEADS HURRICANES INTO BIG BASH PLAY-OFFS AFTER AGAIN TOP-SCORING

Worcestershire CCC 2022 overseas player, Matthew Wade, has led Hobart Hurricanes into the Big Bash League play-offs after again top-scoring in a six run win over Melbourne Renegades.

Hurricanes captain Wade followed up his 83 not out against Sydney Thunder with 48 of his side’s 182-5 after they opted to bat in the Docklands Stadium.

It took the run tally of Wade, available for all formats at New Road this summer, past the 300 mark in the Big Bash.

The Renegades looked on course for victory after reaching 138-1 in the 15th over with Aaron Finch (75) and Shaun Marsh (51) adding 101 for the second wicket.

But the Hurricanes fought back and, with six needed off the final ball for a Super Over, Wade held onto the catch at mid on to dismiss Will Sutherland.

It means the Hurricanes are guaranteed a top five place.

Wade again batted at number three and he struck one six and four fours in his 39 ball knock.

He added 67 for the second wicket with Caleb Jewell .

Wade was within two runs of his third half century in the tournament when he tried to play a scoop shot against Zak Evans and was caught at fine leg.

Tim David’s unbeaten 46 off 20 balls gave the innings late momentum.
