GIDMAN: HAVING MOEEN AVAILABLE FOR LARGE CHUNK OF BLAST WOULD BE “MASSIVE”

Head Coach Alex Gidman said it would be “massive” should Worcestershire Rapids Vitality Blast captain Moeen Ali be available for a significant chunk of this summer’s competition.

Moeen was only able to play in the four games of the 2021 tournament because of England commitments.

But his country have very few white-ball matches at the same time as the 2022 Vitality Blast group stages ahead of the July 16 final.

Gidman is taking nothing for granted but has his fingers crossed the all-rounder will be able to lead the Rapids for a sizeable number of matches.

He said: “It would be massive. We always keep calm about it with Mo because you never know what is quite around the corner with international cricket.

“But, as things stand, it looks like we might get a little bit of him, which will be really, really good.

“It will be great if we can see him for a decent chunk (of The Blast) this year. Fingers crossed it stays like that.”

In June, England’s only white-ball games are three ODIS in the Netherlands from 17-22 before a three-game home T20I Series versus India beginning on July 7.

Gidman revealed that Moeen is in regular contact about the Rapids plans for this year’s tournament.

He said: “Mo loves coming back to us, and we’ve had a lot of communication with him about the T20 team and things we are working on, the potential of another overseas player and who that player might be.

“Mo is deeply invested in what we are trying to do. He is very supportive of everything the players are trying to do and what we are working on.”
