PACEMAN MITCHELL STANLEY RETURNS TO SECONDS ACTION AT STOURPORT

Promising paceman Mitchell Stanley will make his return to Second Eleven action for Worcestershire in the four-day encounter with Leicestershire at Stourport on Severn beginning on Monday (August 30).

The 20-year-old, who signed his second rookie contract for Worcestershire this summer, has been side-lined with a back problem since mid June.

But he made his comeback in two Academy matches and last week played for Shropshire against Devon in a three-day National Counties match at Sidmouth, bowling 25 overs in the game and picking up four wickets.

Stanley’s last appearance for the Seconds was in a T20 match against Glamorgan at Kidderminster on June 17.

Worcestershire batsman, Oliver Cox, will make his Second Eleven debut and is one of several past or current Academy players in the squad.

Seconds coach Kadeer Ali said: “We are looking forward to it because at this stage we’ve got quite a few of the Academy lads who will be involved.

“It will be good to have a good look at some of the younger lads we haven’t seen a lot of in the last few weeks.

“There are quite a few of them doing well and it will be good for me to have a look at some of these guys in the second team environment.”

The younger players will play alongside experienced players like wicket-keeper batsman Gareth Roderick and paceman Charlie Morris.

The other keeper-batsman in the squad, Henry Cullen, scored a century on Saturday for Kenilworth Wardens in the Birmingham Premier League match against Premier Division Two champions Halesowen.

Worcestershire are also giving a trial to left arm seamer Ben Gibbon.

Gibbon, aged 21, plays National Counties cricket for Cheshire and last week played for Lancashire Seconds against Durham Seconds at Jesmond.
