Kadeer Ali says the Second Eleven Championship match against Warwickshire was ideal preparation for Worcestershire CCC’s return to LV=Insurance County Championship action against Sussex at New Road on Monday.
A century from Jake Libby and seven second-innings wickets for Josh Baker were the individual highlights of 219 run win secured just before tea on the final day.
But many of the senior players involved made useful contributions with bat and ball as they re-acclimatised to red-ball cricket after the Vitality Blast and Royal London Cup.
Second Eleven Coach Kadeer said: “I think it has been a brilliant four days. A lot of the guys have got a lot out of it.
“In the first innings, I think we bowled nicely as a unit. Charlie Morris got five wickets, but I thought collectively we bowled well.
“Jake Libby, with his hundred in the second innings, was outstanding again like he has been for a couple of years for us now.
“Josh Baker at the end bowled brilliantly on a wicket which at lunch-time on the final day, meant it looked like it was going to be hard to get a result.
“He has come on and bowled very consistently, got a bit of bounce and got on a roll with seven wickets.
“It was a brilliant match-winning bowling performance from him, and he got a bit of response out of the footholds and, with the new ball as well, it skidded on a bit.
“Really pleased for him but overall, really pleased with how the four days have gone, which is brilliant going into next week, and the win just tops it off.”
Kadeer added: “We’ve had a lot of white-ball cricket and, to get some red ball performances under the belts of some of the lads, is ideal in getting back into red-ball rhythms.
“It is going to be busy, so it is important we get into a nice rhythm and start well and hopefully, we can get some good performances together.”
