CRUCIAL MONTH FOR WOMEN’S RAPIDS QUARTET AND CENTRAL SPARKS

Central Sparks are gearing up for a crucial month of cricket in their bid for glory in the Charlotte Edwards Cup and Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy.

The Sparks squad, which in 2021 includes four Worcestershire Women’s Rapids players in Sarah Glenn, Emily Arlott, Chloe Hill and Clare Boycott, will be involved in a mixture of T20 and 50 over cricket.

T20 will first take centre stage in the Charlotte Edwards Cup with the Sparks playing three games in six days – including one at New Road against Lightning on Saturday, August 28.

That will take place either side of a trip to Hove to face Southern Vipers, and a game with South East Stars at the Edgbaston Foundation Ground on August 30.

The Sparks are currently lying in third spot in Group A.

The winners of the two groups and best placed second team qualify for the Charlotte Edwards Cup Finals Day, at the Ageas Bowl on Sunday, September 5.

Attention will then switch to 50 over cricket, with three more games for the Sparks, including another one at New Road, against South East Stars, on Sunday, September 12.

They will also visit the Sunrisers on September 10 and make the trip to face Lightning on September 18.

The Sparks are well in the hunt to reach the knockout stages, after winning three of their opening four games.

They are in joint second spot on 13 points alongside Northern Diamonds, just a single point behind leaders Southern Vipers.

The winners of the group will go through automatically to the final of the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy final, on Saturday, September 25.

The second and third placed teams will meet in a play-off, on September 22, to see decide who will face them in the final.
