Jacques Banton has followed in the footsteps of Brett D’Oliveira and Jack Haynes, in becoming part of the third father and son combination in the current Worcestershire CCC squad to have played first team cricket.
All-rounders Damian D’Oliveira, (1982 to 1995), and Gavin Haynes, (1991 to 1999), represented Worcestershire at senior level.
Jacques’ father, Colin, was not on the staff at New Road but he did play for Nottinghamshire CCC during the 1995 season.
He made seven first class appearances, scoring 292 runs with two half centuries at an average of 29.20, and also appeared in two List A games.
Jacques said: “My dad was an influence when myself and Tom were younger.
“We were always down at the nets, myself, Tom and dad. He was the guy who kind of got us started.
“That was at Sutton Coldfield CC and then we moved to Barnt Green. I still talk to my dad a little bit about things relating to cricket.”
Jacques is keen to also eventually play red ball cricket for the county and there are 10 father and son combinations who have played County Championship cricket for Worcestershire.
