UNDER-18S INVOLVED IN THRILLING DRAW AFTER HALION CENTURY AND DAVIDSON’S FOUR WICKETS

Worcestershire Under-18s came within one wicket of a thrilling victory in an ECB County Competitions Group 2 game with Warwickshire Under-18s at Portland Road, Edgbaston.

The two sides came to an agreement, which left Warwickshire a target of 321 in what became 67 overs.

The home side lost a wicket in each of the final two overs from captain Joe Stanley and Oliver Davidson, but their last pair survived the final three balls and closed on 309-9.

Both sides claimed nine points from the fixture, with Worcestershire’s tally made up of four batting points and five for the draw.

They had begun the final day on 78-4, with Oliver Davidson 27 not out.
The agreed target was set up by occasional bowlers Callum Hawkins and Kai Smith being hit for 143 in just 11 overs.

Halion, having faced ‘proper’ bowling during the first phase of his innings, took advantage to finish 116 not out from 179 balls with 25 boundaries.

Myles Holland made 73 off 117 deliveries with one six and 12 fours and Stanley 39 not out off 26 balls in a total of 272-5 from 66 overs.

When Warwickshire batted, Jack Warner made an early breakthrough and, after a century partnership was ended with a run out, Josh Dickenson and Ben Parker each collected a scalp.

Davidson then worked his way through the middle order, including top scorer Hawkins for 76, to set up the exciting finale.
