Six Worcestershire CCC Academy players have been selected for the 2021 ‘Super Fours’, which will occur next week at the National Performance Centre, Loughborough.
Ben Parker, Henry Cullen, Josh Dickenson, Rehaan Edavalath, Ismail Mohammed and Reeve Evitts have been chosen for the Midlands side in what is effectively the Under-17s equivalent of the Bunburys.
All six are members of the 2020-2021 Worcestershire Academy intake at New Road.
A seventh Academy player in Josh Baker was also selected until his recent call-up into the first-team squad.
The six will participate in T20 and 50 over matches against London-East, The North and South-West throughout the week-long tournament.
Worcestershire have been well represented at the Super Fours in recent years with Jack Haynes, Josh Tongue and Adam Finch of the current first-team squad amongst those who have been selected in the past.
It is a second Super Fours call-up for wicket-keeper Cullen after his appearance in 2019, while Dickenson was also selected that year but had to withdraw through injury.
In his first year on the Academy, Pace bowler Parker plays Birmingham & District Premier Cricket League (BDPCL) cricket for Kidderminster and has made significant progress during the past 18 months.
Cullen and leg spinner Dickenson – a Malvern College pupil – are both on their fourth year on the Academy and play BDPCL cricket for Kenilworth Wardens and Barnards Green, respectively.
Batting all-rounder Edavalath is also at Malvern College, plays BPL for Barnards Green and is in his third year on the Academy.
Mohammed is also a batting all-rounder who is in his first year with the Academy and plays for West Bromwich Dartmouth in the BDPCL.
All-rounder Evitts plays for Dunstall in the Derbyshire Cricket League and is in his third Academy year.
Academy coach Elliot Wilson said: “First and foremost, the lads deserve great credit in what has been a challenging 12 months because of COVID-19 to get up to the standard required to be selected for the Super Fours.
“It is always nice to get bits of recognition like this and pleasing for those people who work hard and care deeply about helping young cricketers to progress.”
