Lucy Harris remained upbeat after her side’s defeat to Surrey on Sunday, where Worcestershire Women’s Rapids bowed out of the County Cup at Himley.
Up against it from the outset, the Rapids came up 74-runs short on the day, after a fairytale run in the competition had given the side a chance to create some history in a first ever clash with Tier One opposition.
Fielding first, the Rapids bowled positively to restrict Surrey to 171-7, on a scorching hot day and against a side packed with top-class names.
The visitors flexed their muscles early in the Worcestershire reply, taking wickets at regular intervals despite the best intentions of skipper Clare Boycott and Ebony-Jade Tweats (both 23).
Harris said her side gave a great account of themselves throughout the tournament.
“It has been really nice, a few weeks ago here against Northumberland, then away at Leicestershire where Caitlin smashed it, and obviously back here today.
“It was always going to be a tough ask, and I feel like the better team did win.
“We wanted to go out there with loads of energy and show a Tier One side what we are all about and that we can compete.
“Boycs’ run out showed it and I thought we bowled really well, it is just hard against Teir One sides who have an ability to hit the ball everywhere.”
Harris led the charge with the ball on Sunday, returning excellent figures of 3-38 for the Rapids, recording her best figures since joining the Club in the close season.
In the absence of some regular starters over the weekend, Harris and her fellow bowlers stepped up to the plate valiantly, with fellow youngster Caitlin Baker-Smith impressing once again.
After a quiet start to the season and having to wait patiently for her opportunity, Harris was delighted to be able to repay the faith shown by Ed Wilson.
“I feel like I haven’t quite shown Worcestershire what I can do.
“So, I was really keen to show that against my former side, especially as a few of them used to coach me and I have played with them.
“To be able to do that today and grab a few wickets was really good fun.
“There is always a bit of room for improvement, but I will keep working hard and hopefully we can take the good bits from today into our next few weeks and go again.”
