SPARKS SWITCH TO T20 ACTION FOR CHARLOTTE EDWARDS CUP

Central Sparks make the switch from 50 over to T20 cricket this weekend when they compete for The Charlotte Edwards Cup.

The Sparks have won three of their opening four games in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy 50 over competition with Worcestershire Women’s Rapids quartet, Emily Arlott, Sarah Glenn, Clare Boycott and Chloe Hill, having been part of their squad.

Now the Sparks launch their T20 campaign against Southern Vipers at Edgbaston tomorrow (Saturday).

Two of their six group games will be at New Road against North West Lightning on August 28 and South East Stars on August 30.

Charlotte Edwards CBE is England Women’s most-capped player. From 2006-2016, she led the team to three Ashes wins, an ICC Women’s World Cup, and an ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.

She played in the first-ever international T20 match against New Zealand at Hove in 2004 and is England Women’s leading run-scorer in IT20 cricket.

Charlotte Edwards said: “It’s a huge honour to have my name attached to the competition. The regional players who’ll take part in the competition are at the beginning of such an exciting journey, and the pathway has progressed and developed so far since I was in their position.

“I hope, as we saw with the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, that players from across the eight teams can continue to impress at regional level and push hard for international selection. The new domestic set-up is a real game-changer for women’s cricket in this country, and I’m proud to be a part of it.”
