Worcestershire Women’s Rapids embark on one of their longest journey’s of the summer this week, with Ed Wilson’s side facing a trip to Canterbury, as Kent Women lie in wait in the Vitality Blast.

Successive defeats to Northants Steelbacks and Derbyshire Falcons have made Friday’s fixture all the more important for the Rapids, with a win crucial if Worcestershire harness hopes of maintaining their pursuit of a place in the knockout stages of the competition.

The Latest

Defeat against the Falcons last time out came in frustrating circumstances for Worcestershire Women’s Rapids, with Friday providing a chance for the side to claim a second win of the campaign.

Sophia Mitchell will be hoping to turn her positive starts into a big score after making her way to 20 twice in the last two matches, top scoring against Derbyshire last Sunday.

Youngster Elicia Pollard was unable to make the desired impact she would have liked on debut last week, with the opener set to resumer her role at the top of the order and show why she is rated so highly at Canterbury in her second appearance this Friday.

The Rapids had seamers Jess Beach and Caitlin Baker-Smith to thank for the bright start against the Falcons, as the away side were reduced to 6-2 after both bowlers took a wicket apiece in the early exchanges, with hopes high that the pair can weave their magic once again in the eagerly anticipated Blast assignment tomorrow.

Inside The Camp

Tweats calls on batters to lead from the front at Kent

After starring in the first game of the season away at Leicestershire a fortnight ago, Ebony-Jade Tweats and her Worcestershire Women’s Rapids teammates have been searching for the missing ingredient with the bat in T20 cricket.

Earning player of the match on the opening day for a controlled and composed half-century, Tweats guided her team through a successful run chase of 160 in what looked to be a real watershed moment for the Rapids with the bat.

However, two defeats in the previous two matches have seen Worcestershire stumble, losing wickets at key moments and struggling to build substantial partnerships.

With the memorable win against the Foxes still very fresh in their minds, the teenage batter is hoping her team can use that batting performance as motivation ahead of the trip to Kent on Friday.

“We haven’t quite put a full performance together in the last few games, in all facets of the game.

“I think this is critical going forward in the competition if we want to put a winning run together. We spoke about bowlers having clear plans and executing them as much as possible.

“Batting, we have spoken about creating partnerships and having someone who is prepared to bat through the innings.

“The biggest thing we have talked about is having a set batter in through most of the innings, allowing others to bat around them and play their own game by taking on the bowlers.

“We have also mentioned showing the correct intent, but also making sensible choices in more pressured situations.

“If we do these things, then there is no reason why we can’t go on and compile competitive scores or successfully chase down big totals.”

Into a second season as a fully-fledged Tier 2 side, Worcestershire have undergone extensive change in their approach to short-format cricket, in a bid to take the game on.

Encouraged to take a more fearless, positive, and aggressive approach, the balance of knowing when to play and when to assess a situation has proved difficult at times, for a young group keen to make their mark.

Restricted to scores of 109 against Derbyshire and 101 against Northants, the importance of someone batting through the innings has been highlighted.

Tweats says the batting group must shoulder the challenge if the team is to return to winning ways on Friday.

“100%, I think the top order has to take responsibility in setting a platform for our bowlers to bowl at.

“If someone gets in and goes on to get a big score or bats time, others can bat around them with freedom and play their own game.

“I’d like to have an impact on every game, whether that be with the bat or in the field.

“If I stick to my plan in T20 cricket and back my skills, there is no reason why I can’t have a positive impact on the game.

“Hopefully, I can contribute significantly with the bat this weekend and help the team to be successful.”

The Opposition

Kent Women

Just one point ahead of Friday’s opponents, Kent Women find themselves fifth in the table, with one win from three matches in the 2026 Vitality Blast T20.

A commanding nine wicket win over Sussex Sharks has been tainted by defeats to Middlesex and Gloucestershire so far in the group stage, but the hosts this Friday will take confidence from Amy Gordon’s early season form.

Gordon’s 70 from 46 balls spearheaded Kent’s win over Sussex, with the opener showing her class and reminding all bowling units across Tier 2 just how accurate they have to be in order to keep the top order batter under wraps.
