MOEEN AND RAPIDS FRUSTRATED BY WEATHER AT NEW ROAD

Worcestershire Rapids captain Moeen Ali endured a frustrating 34th birthday as the Vitality Blast encounter with Northamptonshire Steelbacks at New Road was abandoned without a ball being bowled.

The Rapids had to be content with one point to take their tally to six from the opening five matches in the North Group.

Umpires Nigel Llong and Paul Baldwin called off play after making a fourth and final inspection at 7pm.

Steady rain fell during the early part of the afternoon and a combination of a wet outfield and continual gloomy light which meant both sides had to settle for one point apiece.

It was a disappointing end to Moeen’s five game spell as Rapids captain before he links up with England for their T20I series against Sri Lanka.

The Steelbacks collected their first point of the campaign after losing their opening four matches.
