ISMAIL MOHAMMED HITS CENTURY FOR COUNTY UNDER-18S

Opener Ismail Mohammed hit a century but ended on the losing side as Worcestershire Under-18s went down by six wickets in the 40 over annual match against home side Malvern College.

Ismail, a cousin of Moeen Ali, joined the 2020-2021 Academy intake at New Road, struck 104 off 110 balls after Worcestershire captain Joe Stanley elected to bat.

His knock contained 13 boundaries, and he and fellow opener Oliver Walker (26) put on 94 in 15.2 overs.

Ismail was eventually fourth out with the total on 188 after adding a further 55 for the fourth wicket with Harry Sockett.

Sockett was dismissed from the innings’ final ball for 35 from 45 balls with the total 216-5.

Josh Dickenson (8-0-45-2), Rehaan Edavalath (8-1-29-1), Joe Cox (7-0-46-1) and Tor Burrows (6-0-27-1) were the wicket-takers.

When Malvern batted, another opener in Oliver Cox laid the foundations for their success with 76 off 81 balls with 14 fours.

He was given excellent support by Tom Boorman (37) in a second-wicket partnership of 109 in 18 overs.

Cox was eventually third out at 141 in the 25th over, but Angus Catto (41 off 43 balls) and Myles Holland (27 not out) added 62 for the fourth wicket in 11.3 overs to ensure victory for Malvern College.

Paddy Thompson finished with figures of 8-1-34-2 with Elliot Mason (5-0-40-1) and Ismail (2.1-0-12-1), the other successful bowlers.
