DWARSHUIS TO PLAY FOR SECONDS IN BUILD-UP TO NEW ROAD VITALITY BLAST OPENER

Ben Dwarshuis will continue his preparations for the Vitality Blast by playing for Worcestershire Seconds in today’s (Tuesday’s) SET20 Trophy match with Gloucestershire Seconds at Kidderminster (1pm start, behind closed doors).

Head Coach Alex Gidman confirmed the Australian quick bowler would feature along with the majority of the players who will be in action in the opening Blast match against Notts Outlaws at New Road tomorrow (Wednesday).

Left-arm Dwarshuis, the leading wicket-taker for champions Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League, arrived in England last weekend.

After an initial quarantine period, he went through a series of net sessions on the square at New Road during the intervals in the LV=Insurance County Championship match with Durham.

The 26-year-old will be fully refreshed after not playing any competitive cricket since a quartet of March Cup 50 over matches for New South Wales in early April.

Gidman said: “Ben has settled in very quickly and has been practicing hard, and he will play on Tuesday in the Second Eleven fixture.

“He is looking forward to having a runout and then getting going in the Blast against Notts on the following day.

“Most of the team playing on Wednesday will also play in that Seconds fixture.”

The Seconds corresponding fixture with Gloucestershire at Rockhampton last week was abandoned due to rain.
