MITCHELL PRIDE AT CLIMBING INTO TOP 20 OF WORCESTERSHIRE ALL-TIME RUN-SCORERS

Daryl Mitchell has revealed his pride at climbing into the top 20 of Worcestershire’s all-time list of run-scorers in first-class cricket – and passing some illustrious names.

The long-serving opener has overtaken Tom Graveney, Edwin Cooper and Steve Rhodes during the start of this season to move into 19th position amongst the County’s most prolific batsmen.

He goes into tomorrow’s encounter against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge, having scored 13,306 first-class runs for Worcestershire.

Mitchell, who has struck three half-centuries to date this season, said: “The team is the most important thing to me – and always will be – but you get told about individual facts and figures by supporters.

“It is nice to tick them off, and to have gone past a great name in the club’s proud history like Tom Graveney is something special.

“I’m obviously at the tail-end of my career, and I don’t know how much higher I can get in terms of the number of runs scored.

“But to be in the top 20 of the club’s run-scorers is, I guess, something you can look back at and be proud of.

“To also be averaging nearly 40, batting as an opener for much of the past 15 years, means I must have done something right!”
