SECONDS ARRANGE 50 OVER FRIENDLY WITH HEREFORDSHIRE AT CHESTER ROAD

Worcestershire Seconds have arranged a one-day friendly encounter with Herefordshire to help plug a three-week gap without any action in their Second Eleven Championship programme.

The two sides will meet in a 50 over match at Kidderminster CC’s Chester Road ground on Thursday (11am start).

The Seconds had also been hoping to face Derbyshire at Barnt Green on Monday (May 17) in another 50 over friendly, but the match was called off over the weekend due to the recent torrential rain.

The sizeable gap without playing in the Championship was brought about by the abandonment of the fixture with Glamorgan – also at Barnt Green – without a ball being bowled.

Seconds Coach, Kadeer Ali, said: “The plan after the Glamorgan game was to have a bit of time to recharge the batteries and then put in some good practice time after playing four Championship games in a row.

“But the total wash-out against Glamorgan left us with a bigger gap with no cricket than we would have wanted.

“We planned two friendlies in this period, although unfortunately, one of them has had to be called off after all the recent rain.”

The Seconds are next in Championship action from Monday, May 24, when they take on Northamptonshire at Milton Keynes.
