WOMEN’S RAPIDS TASTE DEFEAT FOR FIRST TIME IN 2021 IN DOUBLE DERBY MEETING

Worcestershire Women’s Rapids suffered a double setback against Warwickshire in the ECB T20 West Midlands Group at Portland Road, Edgbaston.

They went down by 26 runs in Game One and 113 runs in Game Two after opting to bowl first on both occasions after winning the toss.

It was the Rapids first setbacks of the season after two wins against Berkshire and the wash-out of both games versus Staffordshire.

The Rapids, who were without the unavailable Emily Arlott this weekend, made an early breakthrough in Game One with Ellie Anderson bowling Thea Brookes (1) with 12 on the board.

But Evelyn Jones (66) and Marie Kelly (55 not out) added 130 for the second wicket in 16 overs.

Jones was run out by Rapids captain Chloe Hill off the first ball of the final over as Warwickshire totalled 155-2.

Anderson ended with excellent figures of 4-0-19-1, and Charis Pavely only gave away 15 runs in her three overs.

When the Rapids batted, on loan, Warwickshire player Milly Home (30 off 32 balls) and Hill (24 from 30 deliveries) added 45 for the second wicket.

Clare Boycott top-scored with 40 from 34 balls with six fours, and she added 40 in 4.5 overs with Rachel Howells (13 not out) as the Rapids closed on 129-4.

In-Game Two, there were two wickets for Jenny Cotham at the cost of 14 runs, but consistent contributions from the Warwickshire batters enabled them to total 181-5, and there were also a total of 26 wides.

Boycott (3-0-25-1) and Anderson (4-0-35-1) were the other wicket-takers.

The Rapids were dismissed for 68 in 16 overs, with Pavely (20) and Howells (15) the only players into double figures during a fifth-wicket stand of 32.
