EXPECT STRONG COMPETITION FOR PLACES SAYS JOE

Club Captain Joe Leach expects outdoor pre-season practice to be “very competitive” given the strength in depth of the Worcestershire CCC squad.

After spending the winter programme at Malvern College, the squad will be back out in the middle from tomorrow (Monday March 8) at Kidderminster’s Chester Road ground.

The signing of Gareth Roderick from Gloucestershire has added further strength to the batting line-up after the recruitment of Jake Libby for the 2020 season onwards.

But there is also plenty of competition for bowling slots via Leach, Ed Barnard, Charlie Morris, Dillon Pennington, Adam Finch, Josh Tongue, Pat Brown and Mitchell Stanley.

Leach said: “We are going to have outdoors practice at Kidderminster from March 8 which will be very competitive given the strength in depth of the squad.

“I imagine guys are going to be going at each other to stake a claim which is great and then hopefully we can get some pre-season cricket in.

“Good sides have that. You look around the country and the sides that are really successful have that strength in depth.”
