head coach alex gidman has praised the impact made this summer by worcestershire ccc batsman jack haynes after encouraging the 19-year-old to play pressure-free cricket.
after an initial senior breakthrough at the tail-end of the 2019 season, haynes has appeared regularly in the bob willis trophy and vitality blast following on from his appearances for england under-19s in the icc world cup.
he scored 285 runs in the trophy at an average of 40.71 – including two half-centuries versus gloucestershire at bristol and warwickshire at New Road.
in the blast, haynes reached double figures in all seven of his knocks for the rapids with a top score of 41 against northamptonshire steelbacks.
gidman said: “jack has certainly not looked out of place. this year i’ve been very open with jack and, for me, it’s been about him trying to absorb as much as he can, enjoy himself, learn as much as he can.
“we will then sit down in the winter and look at how we can try and help him get better with all the learnings that he will have gained from this year.
“there hasn’t been any pressure or expectation on his shoulders, certainly from us or me.
“i just wanted jack, like everyone, to enjoy their cricket, which i think he has done.’
“the players play cricket because they love it, and they are very good at it, and i don’t ever want to lose sight of this group, individually and as a collective, enjoying what they do.’’
