LIBBY LIFTS HAT-TRICK OF WORCESTERSHIRE CCC AWARDS AFTER MEMORABLE SEASON

worcestershire ccc batsman jake libby capped a memorable first season at worcestershire by winning a hat-trick of awards during the club’s 2020 virtual awards evening.

libby was voted the players’ player of the year, the supporters association player of the year and also lifted the dick lygon award for contributions on and off the pitch.

the 27-year-old, who joined worcestershire from nottinghamshire on a three year contract last winter, topped the county’s averages in the bob willis trophy (55.33) and vitality blast (39.75).

he was the leading run-scorer in the country in the trophy with 498 and only hamish rutherford scored more than his 318 runs for the rapids in the blast.

rutherford, who has now flown back to his native new zealand, was chosen as t20 player of the year.

his tally of 19 sixes was the second highest in the country in the competition.

the kenyon award for the best individual moment of the season went to tom fell for his emotional hundred at northampton in the trophy – his first in first class cricket since battling back from illness.

ben cox’s fine displays behind the stumps was recognised with him winning two awards.

the worcestershire cricket society selected his stunning catch to dismiss glamorgan century-maker billy root in the trophy at New Road as their moment of the year.

his overall excellence also earned cox the fans forum fielder of the year award.

the david exall award for an outstanding contribution to worcestershire ccc went to long-serving worcestershire supporters’ association committee member dave kennedy who organises the fifty-fifty competition from which profits go towards the ground improvement fund.
