Worcestershire Women’s Rapids batted Derbyshire out of the contest as they recorded a crushing 170 run win in the Women’s League Two of the Metro Bank One Day Cup.

Clare Boycott starred with a superb 112 at the top of the order for her side, as Gwen Davies (78) batted in fluent style to help add 150 for the first wicket.

Bryony Gillgrass slammed 65 from 39 balls whilst Sophie Beech (69) added a half century of her own as the Rapids punished some wayward Falcons bowling.

Jess Beach took 4-23 to lead the way for her side in the second innings, as contributions across the bowling unit saw them bowl Derbyshire out for 210.

After settling back into the 50-over format in their side’s big win against Kent, Boycott and Davies set about righting some wrongs in last weekend’s frustrating defeat to Gloucestershire.

The response was emphatic, as the pair batted in sublime manor, racking up 150 inside 25 overs as they flayed the Falcons bowlers to the boundary with ease.

Davies reached her half-century in just 43 deliveries, shortly before Boycott raised her bat for a fifty of her own after facing her 58th ball of the innings.

On 78, Davies was trapped LBW, but her superb individual effort had been part of a sensational opening partnership that had put her side in a dominant position.

Boycott was soon arms aloft, as she celebrated reaching a fantastic century from 103 balls that included 14-fours and a six.

Her dismissal left the Rapids 214-2, before the middle order mayhem ensued, with the Rapids amassing 156 in an incredible final 17 overs.

Sophie Beech picked up where the openers had left off, as she a Bryony Gillgrass piled on 114 runs in just 11 overs, with Beech easing her way to a classy 60 from 69.

Gillgrass once again reminded everyone why there is so much excitement about her future in the game as she blitzed a stunning 65 from just 39 deliveries, at a strike rate of 166.

Beech batted through until the final over of the innings, after an Ebony Tweats flourish of 21 had helped the Rapids accelerate up to a seismic 380-6 from a majestic 50-over batting performance that had seen the Falcons bowlers flogged to all parts of the ground.

The response with the ball was nothing short of emphatic from the Rapids, who reduced Derbyshire to 75-5 in a clinical start to the second innings.

Hannah Hardwick took the first wicket with a peach of a delivery that saw Derbyshire in instant trouble at 0-1, before Jess Beach (figures) struck twice in quick succession with a clean bowled and an LBW that further cemented the hosts control on the match.

Emily Churms and Flora Bertwistle wasted no time getting in on the action with a wicket apiece as the Rapids continued to work through the Falcons batters.

Jess Beach took the crucial wicket of Pittman for 50, as the Rapids pushed to wrap up proceedings.

Beach finished with superb figures of 10-3-23-4, while Churms, Hardwick and Bertwistle all picked up another wicket each before Gwen Davies finished off the innings with a rare wicket as the Rapids stormed to a crushing 170-run victory.
