📝 MATCH SCORECARD & PREVIEW: RAPIDS vs BEARS

rapids bidding for second win in three days in battle for norman gifford trophy

worcestershire rapids will be defending a proud record in the norman gifford trophy when they take on local rivals warwickshire bears in today’s (sunday’s) vitality blast encounter at New Road (1pm start).

the two counties have been competing in the t20 tournament for the rebranded trophy – formerly the mackeson trophy – for the past four seasons.

the rapids have won six of the eight meetings and lost one with the other match abandoned last summer.

norman gifford captained both worcestershire and warwickshire during a 29 year playing career in which he picked up 2,068 first class wickets.

the trophy – played for by worcestershire and warwickshire in the 1960s – was re-named after a social media campaign amongst supporters of both teams.

the rapids will be looking to build upon friday evening’s opening blast success of 2020 over somerset at taunton.

blast captain ed barnard: “we got a decent total on the board on what was a tougher wicket than we thought and the way everyone bowled, and the way we closed the game out under pressure, was excellent.

“we’ve had some really good games of cricket against somerset but it will be nice to play someone different on sunday, especially the bears, so hopefully we can get our second win in the blast against them.”
