Worcestershire CCC are putting the focus on attracting families to New Road in 2016 – and hope those viewing the screening of the Lion King in June will be inspired by the surroundings to return for the NatWest T20 Blast.
One of the top 25 highest grossing films of all time, with the unforgettable music by Sir Elton John, is being shown on the big screen on June 25.
It follows on from the success of last summer's venture by the County when significant numbers of families turned out to watch 'Frozen' in mid July.
A family ticket for two adults and two children purchased in advance will cost just £25 with food and beverages available in the Chestnut Marquee.
But families are encouraged to bring their own picnics and blankets and sit on the outfield and soak up the iconic atmosphere at this famous ground – and hopefully will want to come back and watch skipper Daryl Mitchell and his side in T20 action.
Prizes will also be up for grabs on the day for the best dressed 'Lion King' character amongst the audience.
Worcestershire Commercial Director Jon Graham said: "When we screened 'Frozen', for me because I have got kids, it was one of the highlights of last year.
"It was just great to see families here – and we want to see those families also coming here for T20 cricket.
"We have brought the film forward a little bit so, with the fixtures in July, hopefully the people who attend the film will say 'well actually, it will be good to bring the kids here for a T20'
"That is going to be our focus, we want families to come to New Road.
"It is about getting different people here and the mantra of 2016 is 'look after the people who always come but also be passionate about attracting new people to the club'"
Graham believes the outdoor cinema events at New Road make for a perfect family afternoon.
He said: "The Chestnut Marquee will be open and, for the adults, if it is a nice day,you can relax on the outfield and enjoy a couple of drinks.
"Equally, if you've got a couple of kids and one of them is interested in the movie and one really interested in playing cricket on the outfield, absolutely fine.
"Bring your own picnics and blankets. It just really is just continuing on from what we did last year, which was really successful. It's just a great afternoon out.
"The Lion King is a classic, like Frozen, and we are really looking forward to it because it worked so well last year."
Individual tickets purchased in advance are £10 for adults and £5 for children with car parking available for just £2.
