Moeen Ali has helped Multan Sultans to reach the play-off stages of the Pakistan Super League for the first time after hurrying them to victory in their latest match.
Worcestershire CCC’s Vitality Blast captain struck 14 not out off just five deliveries to complete a nine wicket win over Islamabad United in their latest match in Rawalpindi.
Moeen hit the winning runs – a boundary through extra cover – off Muhammad Musa as the Sultans chased down a 92 target in nine overs in only 6.4 overs.
James Vince was the Sultans main hero with an unbeaten 61 from 24 balls before Moeen collected three quickfire boundaries to seal victory.
Vince put on 68 for the first wicket with Zeehan Ashraf (16) before Moeen came to the wicket to see the Sultans over the finishing line.
The England all-rounder had also made a contribution with the ball after Islamabad were put into bat.
He bowled one over for nine runs and picked up the wicket of Colin Ingram who was caught by Vince at long on as Islamabad closed on 91-7 from nine overs.
Moeen and the Sultans have won five of their seven games and, with one encounter being washed out, have taken 11 points from seven matches.
*Worcestershire CCC 2020 Vitality Blast overseas signing, Ashton Turner, returned figures of 6-1-22-1 and was dismissed for one as his side, Fremantle, went down by 44 runs to Melville in a Western Australia Cricket Association first grade match.
