COUNTY T20 SIGNING TURNER TOP-SCORES FOR FREMANTLE

COUNTY T20 SIGNING TURNER TOP-SCORES FOR FREMANTLE

Ashton Turner top-scored for Fremantle CC in a Western Australia Cricket Association first grade match against Subiaco Floreat CC.

Worcestershire Rapids 2020 Vitality Blast overseas signing is a destructive hitter but showed the other side of his game in the two-day fixture.

The 27-year-old, who has been playing white ball cricket for Australia this winter, came to the wicket at 93-2 and dug in to make a patient 72 of 163 balls with six boundaries.

Turner was eventually ninth out when stumped shortly before Fremantle were dismissed for 235 in 85.4 overs.

But his efforts proved in vain as Subiaco overhauled their opponents total to win by four wickets.

Turner, who is scheduled to link with the Rapids for the entire Blast competition, is aiming to return to Sheffield Shield action with Western Australia for the finale of the competition.

He is vice-captain of his State whose next Shield match is against Tasmania in Hobart from February 24-27.

They are lying in third spot in the table and have to entertain the current top two, Queensland and New South Wales, in their final two matches at the WACA in Perth.

*Worcestershire Women’s Rapids spinner, Sarah Glenn, bowled two overs for 19 runs as England Women (122-9) went down by ten wickets to Sri Lanka Women (123-0) by 10 wickets in their final ICC Women’s T20 World Cup warm-up match in Adelaide.
