ALEX HOPES COUNTY WILL REAP BENEFITS OF HIS SPELL IN THE HUNDRED

Alex Gidman is relishing the opportunity to be part of the Birmingham Phoenix coaching staff for The Hundred this summer – and hopes his experiences will ultimately be of benefit to Worcestershire CCC’s squad of players.

The County’s Head Coach will form part of Phoenix Head Coach Andrew McDonald’s coaching staff along with New Zealand spinner Daniel Vettori and Warwickshire First Team Coach Jim Troughton.

Gidman will be able to tap into the vast experience of McDonald who enjoyed spells as Head Coach of Royal Challengers Bangalore (IPL) and Brisbane Heat (Big Bash) in addition to with Middlesex and Derbyshire Falcons in the Vitality Blast.

He said: “Similar to the players, it is important myself and Alan (Richardson) continue to evolve and get better. We are constantly discussing how we can think we can help the group improve”

“By no means everything we say or do is right. We are fully aware we’ve got to keep improving and getting better ourselves.

“From a personal point of view, being part of The Hundred coaching set-up is exciting.

“It will be great to be involved with the inaugural competition and I’m very grateful for the opportunity.

“But ultimately, one of the motivations for being involved is to try and make our group of players better (at Worcestershire) from what I learn for being involved in the competition.”
