WORCESTERSHIRE SIGNING HAMISH AND VOLTS AIM TO GO ONE BETTER IN TROPHY FINAL

Worcestershire CCC 2020 signing Hamish Rutherford and his Otago Volts team-mates will be aiming to go one better when they visit Auckland Aces tomorrow for the Ford Trophy final.

Rutherford was the Volts leading scorer in last year’s tournament with 393 runs in seven innings.

He was forced to miss the final through being part of the New Zealand ‘A’ team and in his absence Otago were edged out by three wickets by Wellington Firebirds in Dunedin.

But now Rutherford and Co have another chance to lift silverware after defeating Canterbury by six runs in a high-scoring Eliminator Final.

That match marked the return to Otago for Rutherford after missing the previous three Ford Trophy games because of more New Zealand ‘A’ commitments.

He has been in an out of the Volts side in the One-Day competition due to injury and New Zealand ‘A’ commitments and made only five Ford Trophy appearances.

But the 30-year-old, who is available all summer in all formats for Worcestershire, is still top of the Volts averages in the competition.
