Worcestershire Women’s Rapids player Sarah Glenn was one of England’s bowling heroes in a Super Over win against Australia Women in the Tri-Series at Canberra today.
Glenn and fellow spinner Sophie Ecclestone both picked up three wickets as Australia closed on 156-8 in reply to England’s 156-4.
In the Super Over, Australia were restricted to 8-0 and England reached their target with two balls to spare thanks to two fours from skipper Heather Knight.
Glenn had conceded 26 runs in three overs against India Women but bounced back with the fine figures of 4-0-28-3.
She dismissed number three Ashleigh Gardner for 16 and then struck twice in the space of three balls.
Ellyse Perry was lbw for 18 and then Glenn held onto a return catch from Rachael Haynes (0) to leave Australia on 104-5.
Ecclestone picked up 3-23 from her spell and also bowled the Super Over.
Knight scored 78 off 45 balls and Fran Wilson 39 to rescue England from 39-3 in the ninth over with a stand of 115 in 11 overs.
The England captain praised Glenn for her performance.
She said: “It was an amazing game of cricket. I thought we’d won it then I thought we’d lost it, and it’s credit to Australia for taking it to a Super Over.
“We started slightly timidly with the bat, but we know that Danni Wyatt and Amy Jones are class acts at the top of the order and they’ll demonstrate that as the tournament moves on.
“Fran batted really well and with the ball Sophie and Glenny were excellent – and Nat deserves a mention, as well. Glenny was a little bit disappointed with how she went yesterday and she didn’t even bowl badly, so it’s great to see her bounce back like that so well.
“Soph was always going to bowl the Super Over for us, for someone who’s so young she consistently stands up and delivers and that’s a great reflection of her talent.”

*County colleague Josh Dell spent day one of Mosman’s New South Wales Premier Cricket first grade match with Gordon CC in the field. He held onto two catches as Gordon were bowled out for 249 in 93.1 overs by the close.
