COUNTY KEEPER COX’S HEROICS WITH BAT IN VAIN

COUNTY KEEPER COX’S HEROICS WITH BAT IN VAIN

Ben Cox’s heroics with the bat proved in vain as Southern Districts went down by four runs in a South Australia Cricket Association T20 encounter versus Adelaide University today.

The Worcestershire CCC wicket-keeper-batsman made a quickfire 41 as his side pursued a 160 target.

Cox came to the wicket at 48-1 and put on 88 for the second wicket with Joshua Barrett.

He struck four boundaries and played well before his dismissal to the penultimate ball of the 18th over with the total on 136.

Captain Barrett continued to score freely but three wickets fell cheaply and the task of scoring 19 off the final over was just beyond him.

He was dismissed for 78 off the penultimate ball as Southern Districts closed on 155-5.

Earlier, Southern Districts had been without the services of the County’s spinner, Ben Twohig, through illness.

Twohig has played a key role with the ball in the competition but was confined to bed for two days with a stomach bug and had not recovered in time to play.

Cox pulled off one catch, to dismiss opener Daniel Kerber (6) off Lewis Hatchett as Adelaide University totalled 159-9 after being put into bat.
