CRICKET SOCIETY STAGE 20TH ANNIVERSARY LUNCH IN GRAEME HICK PAVILION

worcestershire cricket society stage their 20th anniversary lunch tomorrow (sunday) – switched from the view to the graeme hick pavilion – with the guest speaker being ex county cricketer-professional footballer jim cumbes.

more than 70 tickets have been snapped up by society members and their guests.

cumbes won the county championship with worcestershire in 1974 and the league cup with aston villa in 1975.

he also played football for west brom, tranmere, portland timbers and, at the end of his career, with worcester city for three seasons.

in addition to playing at New Road, cumbes had stints in county cricket with lancashire, surrey and warwickshire and then became ceo at old trafford.

the inaugural meeting of the cricket society took place at New Road on april 20, 1999.

clive feith, who has been one of the county’s public address announcers in recent years, was elected as the initial chairman.

former worcestershire captain and opening batsman tim curtis agreed to become the society’s first president.

the then worcestershire secretary-ceo mike vockins and tom graveney agreed to be vice-presidents.
