Alex Gidman says Worcestershire are keen to turn the tables on Gloucestershire when the teams lock horns in the Specsavers County Championship starting tomorrow (10.30am start).
Worcestershire narrowly losing a thrilling match during the Cheltenham Festival by just 13 runs in late July.
Now the teams will meet again with Worcestershire looking to build on the impressive win over Glamorgan and their opponents keen to seal a place in Division One for next season.
Gidman said: “We’ve got teams coming here with a good shout for promotion – and we don’t want teams to get what they want on our own ground.
“We play very well here (at New Road) generally.
“We know we’ve got another team coming who have played a lot of good cricket this season in Gloucestershire.
“We feel like we owe them one, having felt like we missed out at Cheltenham, so we are looking forward to that game.”
Riki Wessels opened in that game at Cheltenham but has now reverted to a slot in the middle order, scoring 45 and 32 batting at number six against Glamorgan.
Gidman said: “Riki was really keen to help us in fixing a few problems at the top of the order and it didn’t quite work for him or for us.
“He is a class act and can change a game and we want him to feel comfortable and score runs for us and it looks like that is the better position for him, perhaps in that middle order.
“Looking forward to what he can do for us in those sorts of positions for the rest of the season.”
