ALEX GIDMAN: RAPIDS V LIGHTNING POST MATCH REACTION

worcestershire first team coach alex gidman gave his reaction after the rapids 25 run setback against lancashire lightning at New Road.

ross whiteley hit a superb 89 not out and in the process struck his 100th t20 six for the county.

the rapids are now occupying third spot in the table going into wednesday’s home meeting with second placed notts outlaws.

gidman said: “did the better side win today? i think so. today they just played better than us. the competition is full of ups and downs and we got outplayed today by a very good team.

“we’ve got to bounce back now for wednesday and i’m looking forward to our reaction and i’m sure the guys will be bang up for it.

“very rare is that sort of total (218) one that you get comfortably. the lads will probably accept it was a few too many. i think we could have bowled a little bit better but that’s the pressure some of these teams put you under.

“they batted very well and did put us under a huge amount of pressure and today we didn’t quite execute as well as we would have liked.

“a huge positive coming from 60-5 up towards 200 is something we can certainly take into the next couple of games.

“i don’t think we bowled as well as we could have, and i think the lads would accept that, and there are constantly areas we can improve on and we will try to do so before wednesday.

“ross has worked extremely hard, in the past couple of weeks in particular. ross has struggled a bit to find his batting rhythm in this format but he has put a lot of hours in.

“it was a shame because it was like a match winning innings and unfortunately it was on the losing side.

“but i’m sure ross will contribute again in the remainder of this competition.”
