Worcestershire Seconds went down by just 10 runs to their Warwickshire counterparts on the final day of the four-day game at Portland Road, Edgbaston.
A fine 87 by opener Ollie Westbury plus a splendid effort by the Worcestershire lower order kept the Seconds in the hunt to reach a 298 target in 96 overs.
But last man Ed Bragg (15) was lbw to Ethan Brookes with the total on 287 after adding 36 for the final wicket with Adam Finch who finished unbeaten on 42.
After the loss of the third day’s play to rain, Worcestershire declared their first innings on the overnight 158-3 before Warwickshire forfeited their second innings.
Josh Dell (7) fell to Brookes and Jack Haynes, who scored an unbeaten 81 in the first innings, was caught behind for two by Tim Ambrose off George Garrett.
Captain and keeper Alex Milton (2) was lbw to George Panayi at 59-3 and 15 runs later Nick Hammond (2) was bowled by Garrett.
The first substantial stand of the innings saw Westbury and Xavie Clarke put on 65 for the fifth wicket.
Westbury completed a 69 balls half century with eight boundaries.
The pair took the total to 139 before Westbury was dismissed by the Ambrose-Garrett combination.
His 117 ball knock contained 13 fours.
Ollie Clarke (8) departed to Brookes and Xavie Clarke (33) provided Ambrose with a third catch, off George Furrer at 162-7.
Resistance came from Josh Breen (25) and Josh Tongue with a partnership of 46 before the former on 25 became a victim of Bailey Wightman.
Finch joined Tongue and another 43 runs were added by the ninth wicket pair.
Tongue made a quickfire 34 off 38 balls with one six and four fours until Garrett claimed his fourth wicket.
Then came the last wicket resistance from Finch, who hit seven fours in his 52 delivery innings, and Bragg before Brookes had the final say.
