HAYNES TOP SCORES AS ENGLAND UNDER-19S NOTCH FIRST WIN IN TRI-SERIES

jack haynes top-scored for england under-19s who overcame their indian counterparts by five wickets in a tri-series match at cheltenham.

the worcestershire ccc batsman hit an excellent 89 off 104 balls with one six and seven fours.

his efforts were largely responsible for england chasing down a 257 target with eight balls to spare.

it secured england’s first win in the tournament after losing to both india and bangladesh at New Road earlier this week.

haynes came to the wicket at 37-1 and shared in a second wicket partnership of 98 with opener ben charlesworth (52).

charlesworth was second out at 135 but haynes steered england to 197-5 before he fell 11 runs short of his century when caught behind off slow left arm spinner shubhang hegbe.

but george hill (41 not out) and kasey aldridge (29 not out) saw england home with an unbroken stand of 59.

india had earlier totalled 256-6 in their 50 overs.

haynes and england will next be in action tomorrow (sunday) when they take on bangladesh, also at the college ground which today hosts india versus bangladesh.
