wayne parnell picked up two wickets and helped kabul zwanan to move to the top of the afghanistan premier league with a two run victory over kandahar knights.
the worcestershire all-rounder dismissed opener paul stirling, the middlesex batsman, for nought after kabul had set a 174 target in 20 overs.
parnell then returned to the attack to break up a partnership between nasir jamal and another new worcestershire signing in wicket-keeper batsman riki wessels which was threatening to rescue kandahar from 94-6.
the 29-year-old accounted for jamal (38) and, although wessels struck an unbeaten 46 off 23 balls with four sixes, the knights fell just short and closed on 171-7.
parnell ended with 2-34 from his four overs and his side have now won three of their four matches.
sussex batsman laurie evans top-scored for kabul with 57 not out from 29 deliveries with five sixes.
parnell and former nottinghamshire player wessels have both signed three year contracts at New Road until the end of the 2021 season.
