Worcestershire CCC have acquired another major partner in Crown Domestic Appliances who are sponsoring a three ton power roller which should help make the wickets become more pacey and bouncy at New Road.
Crown Domestic Appliances have splashed out a substantial five figure sum to enable the county to purchase the roller which has been provided by Cornwall based firm POWEROLL.
It is the heaviest roller ever acquired by the county and will be of significant benefit to head groundsman Tim Packwood and his team when preparing the square during the 2015 campaign.
Crown Domestic Appliances Limited are experts in the sourcing of Domestic Appliances from all over the world, but majoring their activities on China and Turkey.
Their objective is to use their experience to provide all of the clients with a “ Painless Trading Experience ”
The Crown team is made up of professionals in Procurement, Shipping, Sales & Marketing, Finance, Transport, Legislation and Technical matters, and that means that Crown is a ' One Stop Shop.'
When placing orders with Crown there is nothing more to do until making arrangements for delivery into the warehouse.
All of the Financing, Shipping, Factory and Product inspections are paid for by Crown who have just been included in the London Stock Exchange listing of “ 1000 Companies to Inspire Britain."
Packwood said: "We are just so grateful to Crown Domestic Appliances. It is brilliant they have allowed us to purchase this roller. Without their backing, we wouldn't be able to do it.
"We've acquired a power roller, a roller which when fully ballasted will be over three ton in weight and will be used to help with preparation of the cricket wickets.
"Last season Poweroll were kind enough to lend us one of these machines while we were trying to get wickets out at Kidderminster and when we came back to New Road.
"I can honestly say if we hadn't had the weight of roller that the roller can go up to, we would have struggled to have got the first two wickets out for the season at New Road.
"We've used other rollers in the past and they normally go up to two and a half ton but this can go to over three ton.
"Hopefully, with a flood free winter and the grass coverage we've got, combining the two can help to get some decent wickets out for the start of the season and the season ahead.
"It is trying toget the timings right with the moisure level and that heavier weight of roller to try and get a harder, firmer surface to try and get some more pace and bounce into the pitches.
"We are trying to get firmer pitches, and get some really good pace and bounce."
Crown Domestic Appliances managing director John Graham said: "I've been a Worcestershire supporter since I was a boy, going back to the era of Don Kenyon, Peter and Dick Richardson, Norman Gifford.
"I've been a life member of the county for 25 years, and sponsoring the roller just seemed a good thing to do. The club needed it, we could afford to do it, so we've done it.
"I don't know much about the technicalities of a heavy roller but the groundstaff said they needed something better than what they had got and, if I'm in a position to help the club, then I'll do it anytime I can."
