Worcestershire will clinch promotion back to Division One of the Specsavers County Championship if Nottinghamshire defeat Northamptonshire at Wantage Road today.
Nottinghamshire will resume on 107-3 chasing a target of 314 after a truncated third day in which they advanced from 33-2 for the loss of nightwatchman Luke Wood (44).
Worcestershire spinning star Ravichandran Ashwin will be keeping his fingers crossed that his Indian compatriot Cheteshwar Pujara can play a key role for Nottinghamshire.
He will resume this morning on seven not out.
If Northamptonshire win today, then Worcestershire will require a maximum of six points from next week’s final game versus Durham at New Road to return to the top flight.
But that figure would be reduced if Northamptonshire drop any points in their final game away to Leicestershire.
Worcestershire would also retain the leadership of Division Two heading into Monday’s fixture if a Northants success today is the outcome.
If Nottinghamshire win today then the table will stand as:
Notts Played 13, Won 8, Lost 1, Drawn 4, Batting 39, Bowling 39, Points 226
WORCS 13, 8, 3, 2, 42, 36, 216
Northants 13, 7, 4, 2, 28, 36, 181
