Worcestershire County Cricket Club is witnessing a remarkable 27% increase in membership for the upcoming 2024 season. This surge in interest comes as the club prepares to rejoin the elite ranks of County Championship Division One cricket at New Road.
The rise in membership numbers began following the team’s promotion to the top division last September. While the team’s advancement has undoubtedly contributed to this growth, other factors have also played a significant role.
The Early Bird Membership offer, which ended on January 31, was also a significant draw. It offered substantial savings on membership costs, attracting both longstanding members and newcomers alike.
A unique aspect of the Club’s approach this season is their innovative partnership with Pluxee UK, a leader in consumer benefits and engagement. This collaboration is a first in UK cricket, with Worcestershire becoming the inaugural county cricket club to provide members with exclusive perks.
These include cashback on everyday purchases and access to a comprehensive health and wellbeing program. Additionally, a portion of the proceeds from the cashback scheme is reinvested into the grassroots cricket community through the Worcestershire Cricket Foundation.
Ashley Giles, CEO of Worcestershire, expressed optimism about the membership increase, “It’s really encouraging to see that membership has increased so significantly, particularly as there are still over two months to the season gets underway.
“From the feedback we’ve received, there is a genuine excitement about the club being back competing amongst the elite in Division One of the County Championship.
“But you also sense the optimism amongst supporters after last summer’s white ball success in reaching two quarter-finals.”
Joe Tromans, Head of Commercial and Partnerships at Worcestershire, echoed this sentiment. “You sense there is a real feelgood factor amongst our supporters and to have such a major increase in membership is a clear reflection of this.
“They have bought into the Early Bird Membership which benefits supporters in making savings on their membership, but the comments we’ve received also reflect glowingly about the partnership with Pluxee UK and the benefits they are providing in what is a ground-breaking scheme.”
