WAITE MAKES HISTORY FOR WORCESTERSHIRE WITH SECOND INNING FIFTY

Worcestershire all-rounder Matthew Waite made history during his six-hitting blitz on day three of the LV=Insurance County Championship match with Gloucestershire at Cheltenham College.

Waite completed his half century off just 22 deliveries in Worcestershire’s second innings.

According to the Association Of Cricket Statisticians official website, it is the quickest ever fifty by a Worcestershire player in first class cricket in terms of balls faced.

No other Worcestershire player is included in the ACS list of players who have scored half centuries in 25 balls or less.

Waite struck six sixes and two fours in a devastating display of power hitting.

It followed on from his 64 in the first innings and gave him a combined match tally of 126 runs from only 86 balls.

In terms of balls faced, ACS report that the fastest 50 of all time was scored of 12 balls for Leicestershire versus Essex at Grace Road, Leicester in 2012.
