REHAAN SHOWS MORE GOOD FORM IN SCORING MAIDEN CHAMPIONSHIP FIFTY FOR SECONDS

Rehaan Edavalath continued his impressive start to the season for Worcestershire Seconds by top-scoring on day one of the Second Eleven Championship match with Gloucestershire at Kidderminster.

Edavalath, part of the current Academy intake at New Road, followed up his 134 not out versus South Asian Cricket Academy by making 57.

It was his maiden fifty in the Second Eleven Championship.

There were also half centuries for Gareth Roderick and Jacques Banton and good contributions in the lower order from Henry Cullen, Reeve Evitts and Ben Gibbon enabled Worcestershire to total 320 all out from 94.5 overs by the close.

It secured them three batting points after captain Taylor Cornall opted to bat on winning the toss.

Tom Fell (13) was the first to be dismissed when he tried to leave a delivery from Luke Charlesworth but edged through the keeper.

His opening partner Cornall (15) was then run out after playing Jack Taylor to mid-wicket, setting off for a risky single and then trying in vain to regain his ground.

Former Gloucestershire player Roderick and Banton added 92 for the third wicket after joining forces at 41-2.

Two sixes, off Will Naish and Ollie Price, helped Roderick to complete a 79 ball half century which also contained six fours.

He went lbw to Josh Shaw on 54 and one run later Oli Cox (0) pushed forward to Price and fell to a fine reflex catch at slip.

Banton (54) then reached his fifty from 96 deliveries with seven boundaries before going lbw to Taylor working to leg.

Worcestershire were then 165-5 but Edavalath and Cullen steadied the innings with a partnership of 66.

After wicket-keeper Cullen (36) was caught at cover, Edavalath brought up his half century from 98 balls with eight fours.

His fine knock ended on 57 with a mistimed pull to mid wicket  and Adam Finch (5) was lbw but Evitts and Gibbon lifted the total past the 300 mark during a stand of 56 for the ninth wicket.

Evitts (36) became the first of two wickets in three balls for Price but Gibbon remained undefeated on 35.
