OLLIE WALKER HITS CENTURY FOR ACADEMY IN ECB CUP TRIUMPH

Ollie Walker cracked a century as Worcestershire Academy defeated Leicestershire by one run under the Duckworth Lewis-Method to reach the quarter-finals of the ECB Under-18 County Plate competition.

Walker opened the batting and struck 101 off 120 balls with two sixes and nine fours after Worcestershire had been put into bat at Ivanhoe CC in Leicester.

He put on 59 for the first wicket with Lucas Ingram (31) and also received useful support from Seth Essenhigh (20) and Ciaran Baker-Smith (15).

Walker was last out as the Academy totalled 218-9 from 44 overs.

Leicestershire faced a revised target of 102 from 22 overs under the Duckworth-Lewis Method.

Toby Cox made an early breakthrough with only two on the board and Walker was involved in bringing about a run-out in the final over in which play was possible.

Leicestershire closed on 100-3 and now Worcestershire will face the Lincolnshire Cricket Board as they bid to clinch a semi-final spot.

The Academy will be back on action when they take on a Staffordshire Under-21 side at Milford Hall CC on Wednesday (11am start).
