NEW SIGNING TOM TAYLOR LINKS UP WITH WORCESTERSHIRE FOR PRE-SEASON TRAINING

New signing, Tom Taylor, will be part of the Worcestershire squad when they report back for pre-season training today (Monday 13 November) in Malvern.

Taylor has signed a four-year contract at New Road after parting company with Northamptonshire.

He provided a demonstration of his ability with a superb century and two wickets in the Metro Bank One Day Cup encounter with Worcestershire at Wantage Road in August.

Worcestershire Head Coach, Alan Richardson, said: “A few changes have happened, starting with Charlie Morris’s retirement and then those that have moved on.

“To have some new faces is really important for us. We know Rob Jones now through his month with us during the Metro Bank One Day Cup.

“He fitted in brilliantly well and no doubt he will add a huge amount of value to us on and off the park.

“Ethan Brookes is very familiar to myself, Richard (Jones) and Kads (Kadeer Ali) from the times we’ve coached him at Warwickshire and he will fit in seamlessly I’m sure when he gets back with us in March.

“Richard played a little bit with Tom Taylor at Leicestershire, so there is a little bit of an association there.

“It is a new face but someone we’ve had some real experience of playing against, the most recent one being the Metro Bank when he played an outstanding innings against us.

“The boys are excited to see what Tommy is about. We know he is a good character, with some real quality that he will give us on the park as well, so that will be really exciting for us.”

Richardson added: “He’s a bowler who bats, the roles he’s played in the teams he’s been with, that the role he’s fulfilled at the moment.

“But who knows? It is always exciting for every player to try and adapt and continue their journey and evolve as a player.

“You watch Tommy and the way he has batted, I’m sure he has aspirations with the bat to be able to fulfil many roles.

“If that ends up becoming a genuine all-rounder….you certainly see that he has the opportunity to do that.

“We signed him as someone who will put in some valuable contributions with the ball, is really good in the field, a very good slip fielder as well, and obviously contribute with the bat.

“Anyone who can contribute in all facets of the game is obviously exciting for us.”
