FIRST TEAM SQUAD IN ACTION AT NEW ROAD IN SECOND TEAM DERBY WITH BEARS

Worcestershire CCC members and supporters will be able to watch a full-strength squad in action during the Second Eleven Championship with Warwickshire at New Road beginning next Monday (August 23).

The senior players will be using the game to prepare for the forthcoming quartet of LV=Insurance County Championship matches.

They are currently going through paces during a week of full red ball training at New Road under the supervision of Alan Richardson and Kadeer Ali, who oversaw the recent Royal London Cup campaign.

Head Coach Alex Gidman and players Dillon Pennington, Ben Cox, Ross Whiteley and Pat Brown will join them after the weekend following their spells in The Hundred.

Assistant Coach Richardson confirmed: “We are going to have a heavy week of red ball training and get back into four-day cricket.

“The boys haven’t played it for quite a while. We will get back into that, and then we’ve got a Seconds game where we will have a full squad to pick from.

“It will be good to get the boys back into some (red ball) cricket.

“It will be a lead-up to the end of August and September when we play four County Championship matches.

“The Hundred boys will also be back. Ben, Dillon, Ross and Pat will all be back and Alex.”

Richardson said there is still lots to play for during the finale to the season.

He said: “We are not in the division we wanted to be in – but it’s still going to be four more games of competitive cricket for us to get better and to keep trying to move forward as a group in the red-ball stuff.

“I think all games Worcestershire play are important, and these are no different.”

Worcestershire CCC Members can attend the fixture for free, just showing their 2021 Membership cards on the Main Gate, and general admittance tickets are also on sale online for just £5. Click here to purchase tickets.
